Teen Trends to Buy in 2021

A lot has changed in the past two years and new trends have emerged; this is mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Something that has inspired teens to start buying these new things is an app called TikTok. This platform has grown tremendously since the start of the pandemic. Many celebrities are also hopping on the app to promote their products. According to online sources, TikTok has now been downloaded on devices almost 3 billion times and is becoming even more popular, encouraging people to hop on its trends and buy cool products.

Sweatpants are one item that have become more popular. They can be dressed up or dressed down, which makes everyone love them. There are lots of ways to style them while staying super comfortable. Senior Paige Reed says, “I always throw on sweatpants when I’m in a rush or want to stay comfy.” Sources state that they can cost anywhere from $5 to $150. Many people enjoyed wearing them during quarantine while at home, and this trend may be here to stay.  According to Teen Vogue online: “A few years back, wearing the best sweatpants outside of your home would have been a big no-no. Sure, Juicy Couture tracksuits were the exception (and they were favored by celebs and teen girls alike) but the grey and black sweatpants that you would wear in the comfort of your home or after your gym workout? Preposterous! These days though, we are taking it back to 25 years ago, when joggers were all the rage.”

Another item that has emerged are blue light glasses. Remote learning on Zoom for days in a row seemed to cause headaches and eye strain. Senior Gillian Ryser said “I like to wear my blue light glasses on days when I’m staring at a screen doing homework for hours.”  These glasses are said to block out the blue light given off by digital screens. They protect the eyes from glare, and in the long term, can even prevent retina damage. Although these glasses are very functional, many people have started wearing them for the look alone.

One of the most popular trends are the LED strip lights. These can be placed anywhere from a bedroom to a car. These have become one of the biggest trends since the start of the pandemic. Many teens have been buying these lights to add some color to their bedroom, kitchen, car, or even bathroom. Not only do they look cool, but they are also energy efficient and last very long.

The weighted hula-hoop has been growing in popularity. This item is extremely convenient for people who are looking to lose weight but don’t want to go to the gym. Gym memberships can be expensive. The weighted hula-hoop is a one time purchase of about $20 and will save people money in the long run. Many people are enjoying this activity because it’s not an intense workout, but they have still noticed a slimmer waist and an overall weight loss.

The last thing that has become cool for teens to buy is the claw clip. This is the new scrunchie. Teen girls love using these hair accessories to clip their hair up when in a rush. They are super convenient and easy to use, but still look cute. These can be found at almost any store; and someone can buy multiple for under $10.

Even though the pandemic has been a bit rocky, many new trends have emerged. Teens have purchased many cool new products over the past two years. Polls have shown how the shopping habits of teens have changed since 2019; undoubtedly, these habits will evolve again, but for now, these trends are here to stay.
