Eagles Pull One Out on the Road
January 24, 2013
On Tuesday January 8th, your Hubbard Eagles traveled to Champion looking for their second win, both total and in conference play against the Golden Flashes. It was a grind on the defensive end and a struggle at the free throw line, however it ended up in Hubbard’s favor with a 53-48 win. A rare but appreciative quick start helped your Eagles jump out to a 13-8 lead, largely due to threes by Derek Kopanic and Larry Minotti. The second quarter was won by Champion, with the Eagles going into halftime up three with starter Jordan Thomson in foul trouble. The third quarter was won on the defensive end of the court, a three-point play by Gregg Santullo and several put-backs by Isiah Scott had the Eagles up five after 3. In the fourth quarter, Senior Aaron Loveless took over, scoring 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Flashes had no answer for Loveless and the Eagles. Derek Kopanic and Aaron Loveless led the Eagles with 14 apiece while Jordan Thomson and Isiah Scott had 8.
