The students of Hubbard High School returned to school on Wednesday, August 23rd, and while some students were worrying about where summer had gone, what lunch they ate, which teachers they could tolerate,  and how many minutes were left in the school day, the HHS football players were focused on the Friday Night Lights and their upcoming 2017 season.

After spending most of the summer preparing, it was finally time for the team to kick off the season with a home opener against University Prep. The Eagles,  with a total of 324 yards,  won 41-6.  Running Back Tyreq Moorer, #3,  started the scoring with a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter.  In a surprise 4th quarter play, OL Joey Bednarik, #70,  recovered a fumble and scored for the Eagles. “ Who would’ve ever thought I would get a touchdown? I guess miracles do happen,” Bednarik remarked, pleased.

Although the Eagles have lost players throughout the years, many of their 2016 starters are returning. According to WFMJ, junior linebacker Lukas Mosora, #10,  previously led the Eagles in tackles with 142.  Junior Davion Daniels, #4, is returning as one of Hubbard’s quarterbacks. Last year Daniels scored eight times on the ground and rushed 488 yards. “I would like to have a successful winning season and do the best I can to make the city of Hubbard proud,” Daniels says.

The 2017 schedule looks bright for the Eagles. Looking ahead, the HHS Football team will take on Lakeview, Howland, Niles, Jefferson, Struthers, Poland, and East. These teams are tough competitors, but as long as the Eagles work as a team, they believe they can make it happen. Last year the Eagles went 8-3, losing to Struthers, Howland and Mooney in the first round of the playoffs.

“As long as we go out and play aggressively like we know how to do, the outcome should not be a surprise, but one we anticipate,” remarked sophomore OL Reese Best, #72. Look for your very own Hubbard High School Football team as they take on the rest of their season. GO EAGLES!
