The girls golf team finished their season with a record of 11-6. After the regular season ended, the girls had two more big tournaments to finish off the season. The first tournament was the conference championship. This tournament determined which team would advance to the number one spot in the conference.  Hubbard athletics are now in a new conference called the Northeast 8. This consists of the following area high schools: Girard, Hubbard, Jefferson, Lakeview, Niles, Poland, South Range and Struthers. Only five of the schools have girls golf teams; these are: Hubbard, Lakeview, Niles, Poland and Struthers. The tournament took place on September 20th at Trumbull Country Club in Warren. The Hubbard girls came in second place, following the champions from Poland.

The next tournament was the biggest of the season, as it was the sectional tournament. The Division II sectionals were played on September 26th in Hubbard at Pine Lakes Golf Club. The tournament consisted of 14 teams, but only 4 teams moved on to the district tournament in Canton. The weather conditions on September 26th made the venue extremely difficult for the golfers.  However, Hubbard stayed focused in the face of this challenge, as they were committed to obtaining their goal of advancing to the district tournament as a team.

After the 18-hole tournament was over and all the scores were all added up, Hubbard came in 2nd place out of all 14 teams, and the girls were headed to the district tournament in Canton. Hubbard followed the 1st place team, Cardinal Mooney.  Following Hubbard in 3rd and 4th was Champion and Lakeview. The top four scores are taken into account for the total of the team scores. Hubbard’s top four scores were: Jackie Adler with an 83, Noelle Trobek with a 101, Amanda Trinckes with a 107, and Lena Dunkerly with a 114. Theses scores added to a team score of 405.

The team was very excited to advance to districts.  If the team could perform well, they’d have the opportunity to advance to the State Tournament in Columbus at The Ohio State University. The district tournament was played on October 2nd at the Hills and Dales Golf Course in Canton. Now, only two teams could advance to the state tournament. Unfortunately, Hubbard did not end up advancing to the state finals, but having the opportunity to advance was an experience in itself.

Senior Ally Femia said, “ It was a really cool experience making it to the district tournament and a great way to end my senior year.” Along with Ally’s comments, Junior Amanda Trinckes added, “Hopefully next year we can go one step further to state.”

Head coach Abby Cook was very pleased with her team’s performance all season long. She stated, “I am very proud of the girls. They all improved from the first match back in the beginning of August. It is such an accomplishment just to get out of the sectional tournament and advance to the district finals. We still have a young team for next year, so hopefully we can go one more step and reach the goal, making it to Columbus. A chance to play on The Ohio State University’s golf course would be amazing.” The girls golf team ended the season on a very good note with high hopes for next year.
