The Hubbard Lady Eagles golf team drove into the season on August 7th at the Lakeview Bulldog Invitational tournament.  The team took 6th place overall, with a total score of 417. The Lady Eagles then started their regular season matches on August 8th. The Lady Eagles compete in the Northeast 8 conference, playing local schools such as: Lakeview, Niles, Poland, and Struthers. Their non-conference matchups consisted of Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline, Salem, and Austintown Fitch. The girls had a successful regular 2019 season, ending with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses.

This year’s team consists of seven girls and is coached by Abby Cook. The seniors are Jackie Adler and Amanda Trinckes. The juniors include: Lena Dunkerly, Jadien Evans, Claire Riffle, and Isabella Sandberg. The only sophomore on the team is Noelle Trobek. Junior Lena Dunkerly said, “I enjoy being on the golf team because it’s an individual and team sport all in one.”  This year’s top four players had significant wins this season as well. Jackie Adler shot a 35, one under par at Knoll Run Golf Course. Noelle Trobek shot her lowest, a 42, at Deer Creek Golf Course. Lena Dunkerly and Amanda Trinckes also shot their lowests, both being a 45, at Deer Creek Golf Course. Jaiden Evans celebrated a chip-in at Deer Creek Golf Course while shooting her lowest score of the season. Isabella Sandberg and Claire Riffle improved over the season and helped contribute to the Lady Eagles winning year. The team went on a five-match winning streak against Struthers, Niles, Ursuline, Lakeview, and Salem from August 20th until September 3rd. Unfortunately, the streak ended when the Hubbard Girls Golf team took a loss to Poland on September 5th.

The Lady Eagles then went on to compete in the Christine Terlesky golf tournament at the Lake Club in Poland. The tournament is held to support Christine Terlesky from Boardman, who played and coached golf. She is fighting a battle against ALS. Many of the area’s high school teams play in the tournament to support Christine. The Lady Eagles took 4th place overall and senior Jackie Adler was the Division II medalist with a total of 79. The team performed well against tough competition.

To wrap up the regular season, the Lady Eagles competed in the Northeast 8 conference championship at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Vienna on Thursday, September 19th. The Lady Eagles played well for competing on such a tough course. The team took 2nd place, right after the champions, the Poland Lady Bulldogs. Poland had a final score of 382 and the Eagles finished right behind with a 399. Senior Jackie Adler was the conference medalist.

The Lady Eagles now are looking to advance in the OHSAA sectional tournament on September 26th held at Pine Lakes Golf Club. The top four teams will advance onto the district tournament. Coach Abby Cook said, “I think if we play our best and stay focused, we have a good shot at advancing to districts.” Last year the Lady Eagles came in 2nd and took a spot going into the district tournament. Good luck to the Lady Eagles in the tournament and congratulations on a winning season!
