HHS Publications Captures Top Awards at YSU Press Day


Bringing home a total of 36 awards, Hubbard High School’s HUB News Site, Video and The Bard staffs made an impressive showing at YSU/TCJA’s 2018 Press Day held at YSU’s Kilcawley Center on Friday, May 11th.  Competing against eight other Trumbull and Mahoning County schools (Austintown, Bloomfield, Canfield, Mineral Ridge, Niles, Springfield and Struthers), and judged against 180 other entries, Hubbard took seven first place titles, including Best Front Page Layout and Design (HUB), Best Yearbook and Best Yearbook Theme (Bard).  Additionally, HUB senior Chelsea C. was recognized as Journalist of the Year, and Ms. Lisa Shattuck was awarded Advisor of the Year.  

Judges for the event included Director Shelley Blundell, Assistant Professor in the YSU Journalism and Communications Department; award winning, investigative journalist Mr. Dave Davis, Fellow in the YSU Communications Department; Mr. Trevor Ivan, Dr. Mary Beth Earnheardt, Jaietta Jackson, Dr. Jeff Tyus, Rachel Gobep and Robin Stears, all either YSU Video and Journalism instructors and/or Vindicator editors.
