The Varsity Boys Soccer Team is seven games into their season, and they currently hold a 5-2 record. Their only losses came against Lakeview and Labrae. The varsity is led by senior captains Kyle Bolen, Josh Vallas, and David Krok. Kyle Bolen leads the team with 18 goals so far this season. He is on pace to score 41 goals this regular season! That would break the record of a total of 35 goals in a single season.

The team just had their first home game last Thursday as they shutout Girard 5-0. When senior David Krok was asked about the first home game on the new turf, his response was “I thought it was great. As far as the atmosphere of the game and the whole field goes, it was great.” When Kyle Bolen was asked about the experience of the first home game, he had this to say, “It was really good and exciting to play at our new stadium, and an honor to play for our school.”

With now three straight wins since dropping an emotional game to Labrae, the boys are digging deep inside themselves and are looking to make a run this season. In a practice after losing to Labrae, junior Cameron Syersak stated, “After the Labrae game, I don’t want to lose again, for a long time.” Junior Chris Colella also added, “We play for our city, our high school, our fans and student body, and to come out on top.” These quotes suggest just a small sample of the determination the boys have this season. They’re strong from back in the defense, all the way up front to the offense and the goal scorers. Varsity Coach Corey Reinard has incorporated a new system into the game this season, and so far that system seems to be working.

Everybody is encouraged to come out and see what the 2013 Varsity Boys Soccer team is all about this season. They will take on Newton Falls this Thursday night. September 19th, at the Hubbard Memorial Stadium. They will attempt to approve their record to 6-2, and go for their 4th straight win. Come out and show your support.
